Legacy Community Health operates over 50 locations in the Texas Gulf Coast region, offering a wide array of services, including adult and senior primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, behavioral health, dental, HIV/AIDS care, vision, specialty care, and pharmacy services. For more than 40 years, Legacy has pioneered innovative approaches to deliver comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to underserved communities. As Texas’ largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a United Way affiliated agency since 1990, Legacy ensures accessibility to all its services and programs, regardless of patients ability to pay, without any judgment or exception.
Established in 2005 through the merger of Montrose Clinic and The Assistance Fund—two prominent Houston area community organizations that had provided healthcare and medication services for nearly 30 years—Legacy has significantly expanded its reach and impact.
Legacy’s Growth and Expansion
Legacy’s reputation for quality healthcare and fiscal responsibility led to substantial growth in the mid-2000s. In 2006, the City of Houston facilitated the opening of a satellite location at 5602 Lyons Avenue, which now serves as a comprehensive healthcare and social services hub, particularly for the greater Fifth Ward community.
In 2010, Legacy acquired the CHRISTUS Health clinic in Southwest Houston, now the busiest Legacy location. That same year, a clinic was opened in Neighborhood Center’s Baker-Ripley complex, enabling Legacy to provide essential services such as adult primary care, OB/GYN and maternity, pediatrics, dental care, vaccinations, and behavioral health services to the Gulfton area residents.
In 2012, Legacy further expanded by opening campuses in Baytown and Beaumont, targeting medically underserved areas. On September 1 of that year, Legacy took over operations of an established behavioral health practice in Baytown and a pediatric practice in Beaumont, extending their comprehensive care services.
